Major improvements to stability and new features in the Coherence Extension
Last week, we shipped a great new update to Coherence X that greatly improve the user experience. Read below for further details!
Before we move on - we are looking for a handful of power users to share “What’s the most interesting or unusual use case you’ve had for Coherence?” The best answers will be shared on a legendary Apple news site. Please email your suggestion to bzg@bzgapps.com (you’ll even get a shout-out if you’d like one!)
Please note we’ll only be able to use a handful of submissions. Thank you for taking the time to share and being a power user, even if it doesn’t make the column!
What’s new in Coherence X 4.3:
Cleaned up build files and reduced app binary size
We did some very early spring cleaning and removed some unnecessary files that had been floating around in Coherence builds for a few years. Now much leaner!
You can now use any URL when creating a Coherence app
Previous Coherence releases had a finicky problem where it only liked certain URLs. Now, you can use any URL in Coherence, including local ones!
Improved editing tabs in existing apps
Some technical issues fixed, should be much more stable.
Fixed an issue where the Coherence tool would not correctly show which settings were currently enabled when viewing a menu.
Coherence now automatically blocks all new windows in apps with the extension installed. You can disable this on a per-session or per-app basis in the Coherence extension.
The default behavior of Chrome is to show a new window whenever you click on the dock icon. In the last few releases of Coherence, we addressed this by using the extension to block the initial instance of this in a session, assuming that subsequent clicks would be intentional.
Instead, the Coherence extension is now much more granular, enabling you to always allow new windows, always block new windows, always allow new tabs, and always block new tabs.
Additionally, when it comes to windows, you can create one-time session exceptions if you generally want the behavior blocked but just need a new window for a second.
Fixed an issue where settings would not remain checked within the Coherence tool
Updated user agent in the Coherence extension
This should fix an issue that occurred for some users where Google login would break with the extension enabled.
Fixed an issue where editing the icon of a created app would shrink it
Various other fixes
To update your existing Coherence apps:
Backup your existing apps
